Government Announcement – Court Fee’s Due to Rise

Published On: 5th February 2015

The Government has announced its plan to increase court fees for money claims.

Court fees were last increased in April 2014, and the new fees are likely to come into effect before the start of 2015/2016, provided there is Parliamentary time available.

The new fees for money claims

If the claim is below £10,000 then the court fees are unchanged.

Matters above £10,000, the court fee will be 5% of the value of the claim, capped at a fee of £10,000 for a £200,000 claim.

Claimants will be able to benefit from a 10% discount on fees for claims started via Money Claim Online (MCOL) or the Secure Data Transfer facility.

£10,000 claim point:

  • Current fee £455, new fee £500
  • MCOL from £410 to £450

However, a matter of £100,000, the difference is more noticeable:

  • Current fee £1,115, new fee £5,000
  • MCOL from £815 to £4,500
